Zircon3D Designer6. Creating Custom Heatmap Layers

Heatmap Layers

Heatmap Layers allow you to visualize numeric sensor data, such as temperature, humidity, COâ‚‚, or custom metrics across your rooms in a color-coded view. You can configure the system default layers or create your own custom layers.

Creating a New Heatmap Layer

  1. Go to the Layers tab in the left sidebar while in Designer Mode.
Zircon3D provides two system layers: Temperature and Humidity.
You may adjust their parameters as needed.

  2. Click + Add to create a new layer.

You can configure:

  • Color Pattern — Choose from multiple gradient styles.

  • Value Range — Set minimum and maximum expected values.

  • Isoline Interval — Controls spacing between contour lines.

    Explanation:
    Smaller interval → more detail
    Larger interval → smoother appearance

  • Distance Decay Exponent — Controls how quickly sensor influence decreases with distance.

    Explanation:
Higher exponent → more localized influence
Lower exponent → influence spreads farther

  • Matching Rules — Automatically assign sensors to this heatmap layer.

Click + Add Rule, then choose:

    • Match Type: Entity ID or UID
    • Operator: Contains / Equals / Starts With / Ends With / Regex
    • Value: Text to match
Matched sensors appear in the Matched Entities list on the right.
  1. Save the layer when finished.

Applying Heatmap Layers in the Floorplan

Automatic Matching

When you drag a sensor or entity onto the floorplan,
any heatmap layers whose Matching Rules apply will be assigned automatically.
This means the sensor will immediately contribute to those heatmaps without additional configuration.

If sensors are already placed:

You have two options:

  1. Re-mount the sensors
Remove them from the floor and drag them back — the new layer applies automatically.

  2. Update mappings manually

    • Select the sensor
    • Open the Monitoring Properties panel
    • In Data Layers, click + Add Layer
    • Choose the new heatmap layer
    • Select the entity used for the data
    • Click Save Floor

Heatmap layers become visible once enabled in the bottom Display Settings of the Viewer.
